In this part of the blog, I’ll tell you about the best known Chilean tennis players and also about their achievements. We can`t expect great achievements as the last post where I will tell you about an international level.
Marcelo (Chino) Rios.
First of all I’ll tell you about Marcelo Rios. He was born in 1975. He was considered as the best player of the xx century. In the year 1998, he became the first Hispanic who was in the first place of the world ranking, as junior, senior and professional. He was the first player in the history winning the 3 tournaments “Master Series” in clay courts.
In his younger ages he was able to win the international Milo Cup, the US open, Japan open, Italian open, Eddie Herr, and the Sunshine cup. In his professional career he won 7 ATP Master, 23 ATP tour.
As anecdote, he never won a Grand Slam; he was given in many times the lemon price in Roland Garros because he was the most unpleasant player.
Nowadays he is an ex players. He was obliged to retired for a couple of injures.

He was able to win 11 ATP titles. He won Olympics medals in Arenas 2004 and Beijing 2008.
In his younger ages, he won Roland Garros, and US open. In his professional career he also won the Davis cup, the Viña del Mar tournament, the Miami Master. He has won 11 ATP.
He also is an ex tennis player. He had to retired this year. His last tournament was the Miami Master.
He was the only one who was between the 15th ranking for 5 years, and between the 35th ranking for 8 years.
As anecdote he had the best service in Latin-American with 226 km/h. He was given the prize of best Chilean players 3 times. He is the only one Chilean player who appears in the game Virtual Tennis 4.

And the last one is Nicolas Massu. He was born in 1979. His best position in the ATP ranking was 9th. He has won 6 ATP Tour. The most important achievement has to be won two gold medals for Chile. In 1997 he got the first place on Wimbledon. That year, he also was named as best double junior player in France. He started his professional career at the age of 17. He has won some Grand Slam, Master Series, the Amersfoort tournament, Challenger he also has won two Olympics gold medals in 2004, has single and double.
As anecdote he is the only one Chilean player who has finished 10 seasons between the 100th of the world ranking. He has records as the longest match with 2 h, 52 m and the other 5h, 14m.

Personally I think that Chile can´t be expecting for the best players, neither for goods achievements, because I think that Chile isn´t a country that helps to supports the athletes. They have to do all the things like pay all the expense on their own. For me if the athletes are doing all these things on their own, the achievements aren´t Chilean achievements. These are only achievements of the player. And also I think that it must change because we should promote and support healthy activities, instead of spend time and money helping people who don´t want your help.
